Beth began her career in the Arlington County Sheriff's Office in January 1986 as the Budget and Human Resources Analyst.  She was promoted to Director of Administration in January 1988, a position she held until her judiciary appointment as Sheriff in July 2000.  In November, 2000 Beth was elected Sheriff in a special election and was re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011 an 2015.  She is the first female County Sheriff in Virginia and served as the first female President of the Virginia Sheriffs' Association in 2012-2013.  Beth is currently one of approximately 40 female Sheriff's in the the United States out of 3,100 Sheriff's nation wide.

The responsibilities of the Sheriff's Office include: commanding a staff of 280, managing an average daily inmate population of 470, administering the security of the Arlington Courthouse, and overseeing a $44,000,000 budget.  Beth is responsible for the operation of the Detention Facility, transportation of inmates, service of all court-issued processes and criminal warrants, the Alcohol Safety  Action Program (ASAP), the Pre-Trial Services Program as well as providing administrative support to all areas of the Office.

Beth received her Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She lives in North Arlington with her husband Joel Lovelace and is the mother of Kenneth Lovelace (24) who resides in New Orleans, LA and Stephen Lovelace (21), a senior at West Virginia University.
